Kroll Ontrack the
leading provider of data recovery and legal
technologies products and services, today
announced it has capabilities to successfully
recover from flash media and solid state disk
(SSD). Through newly developed Ontrack® Data
Recovery tools and techniques, the company’s
expert engineers can recover data from
increasingly more popular flash and SSD devices
that have been plagued by physical damage or
operating failures.
“Flash
memory is a key technology enabling new designs
for many products in the consumer and enterprise
markets. However, the new developments and
enhancements to the technology – larger storage
capacity, diverse applications and performance –
don’t exempt flash and SSD media from data loss.
Flash and SSD storage can suffer some of the
same causes of data loss as traditional storage
such as hardware failure or human error,” said
Sean Barry, senior Ontrack Data Recovery
engineer, Kroll Ontrack.
“As
products with flash and SSD continue to become
more prevalent, the more critical data they
store. They may eventually even replace hard
disk drives. Consequently, it is vital that
users of this storage technology have options
for recovery. The expert techniques developed by
Kroll Ontrack provide flash and SSD users with
thorough, quality data recoveries when data
failures occur,” added Barry. “The need for this
capability is reinforced by the fact that we saw
a 70 percent increase in 2007 over the previous
year for flash recoveries and a 37 percent
increase in flash recovery requests in the first
quarter of 2008 over all of 2007 for North
America and Asia Pacific.”
